Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Buddies

Yesterday was a fairly good day. On the way home I stopped at Petco to get my 'Dog Adoption Gift Booklet" with coupons. Good stuff! I also got Duncan some new treats. He absolutely loves cheese! But of course just giving him straight cheese all the time isn't going to be healthy for him. So I got him some Good Buddy "Castor & Pollux" cheese flavored cookies. He seemed to like them very much. Then, when I let him out to potty I went back to putting his halter and his long lead on, letting him drag that around the yard. He seems to come back inside much faster when I use that for some reason. He came so very close to coming back inside with me just holding the door open for him. He ALMOST did it!

I didn't get to try the approach of using the long lead to call him to me and real him in last night as I had to work my second job. But, I plan to start that tonight and hope to get some good work on it in over the weekend. It's supposed to be fairly nice this weekend too, getting up into the 40s I hear. If it does, I think Duncan and I will try a walk or two on our own. And of course, hopefully Hannah can come over for a visit this weekend as well.

Another pleasant surprise greeted me first thing this morning. When I woke up, I realized that both Duncan and Gracie were laying next to me in the bed. Gracie was actually laying with her rear end next to his rear end. They weren't cuddling or anything, but she at least seemed comfortable enough to lay down right next to him. I don't think Duncan will seek her attention out, but if I know my cat, before long she is going to want to curl up next to him on the couch!

Nice Blog, Bug! Duncan is a little sweetie; I'm so glad to have him as a new Grandpuppy! And Hannah thinks it's neat to have a nephew older than she is!
