More Storms
Duncan was so cute last night. We had another thunderstorm come through, and while the power did not go out, this storm was much longer in lingering. For several hours there were occasional rolling peals of thunder that just went on and on. And oh did Duncan tremble. But again, his fear of the storm overwhelmed his fear of me, and he was quickly on my lap in bed, letting me hold him tight. It's so unusual for him to let me even make a move to reach for him without him cowering or backing away, and here he was leaning into my embrace.
I am still a little worried about his eating habits. I've got him on self feeding and he only eats about a cup a day when he used to eat about two. I am thinking that maybe I should go back to only scheduled feedings; kenneling him in the morning and evening to feed him and give him about 20 minutes to eat and then pick his food up and let him back out.
I've started desensitizing him to letting me pet his legs and feet so that hopefully I can eventually get him to let me clip his nails. They really need a clipping right now. We've also gone for a couple car rides. Duncan sits in the passenger seat and trembles, but otherwise is a very polite traveler.
Glenn and Lynne - Thank you both so VERY MUCH for your encouraging comments. I assure you I have absolutely no intention of giving up on Duncan, and your encouragement is just what I need to boost my spirits and my confidence. I appreciate any and all suggestions from either of you or anyone else as well. Lynn, I especially appreciate hearing of your experiences with Logan. They are concrete examples what can be done and the time that it takes. Thank you, thank you!
