Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Lynne and Logan

Duncan and I met Lynne and Logan today. (This first pic is of Logan.) We went over to Petco again for the Adopt-a-Pet Days to see the folks with LL Dog rescue and were happy to find them there when we arrived. Glen introduced Duncan and me to Lynne and we immediately embraced (Lynne and I that is.) Then we each knelt down to meet each other's dogs. Logan is a little bigger than Duncan and his fur is softer and a little wavy. He's absolutely gorgeous, and of course very sweet. He let me hug and kiss on him a bit. While he is also a shy dog, he does not seem to be skittish about being touched or picked up like Duncan is. He had no issues with me snuggling up to him and petting and hugging him. We sat and talked for awhile and I got some pictures of the boys. We talked about how neat it was when the dogs do things that show you that they love you because they don't really know how to do that. They just do it on accident sometimes (see below.) You know they love you, but since they don't know how to show you on a regular basis, it makes it that much more special when they do figure out a way to let you know.

Logan and Duncan:

Isn't Ducan so cute in his blue bandanna? He looks like a little puppy scout! The bandanna says "Adopted With Love." I got it at the Pet Expo. Perfect for keeping those pesky people from wanting to adopt my dog. (Just kidding!)

I also spent a little time with another rescue named Merlin who is up for adoption. Merlin is a larger Blue Merle Sheltie. He is a very affectionate boy. He came over to me and put his head under my elbow and nudged me to pet him. He also walked up to me at one point and put his head right in my face for me to kiss on him. I was sitting cross-legged on the floor while I was petting him and at one point Duncan walked up to me and stepped up onto my lap. It was so cute; he was jealous that I was petting another dog! He had never done that before. He was like, "This is MY momma!" My heart just melted! He wasn't pushy or aggressive, he just let me know that it bothered him to see me loving on another dog. So I made sure to give him lots of pats and kisses.

I also met a little Tri-Colored Sheltie named Micah. He is a sweet little boy but he still has some residual trauma from the puppy mill experience. For puppy mill dogs attention is bad; when they get attention it's not for good reasons. So when I got Micah out of his kennel, he was of course worried that something bad was coming. I just sat quietly and petted him for awhile. He really needs someone who can give him some love, patience and time, to adopt him and hopefully help pull him out of his puppy mill shell.

And the of course we got to see our little friend Sparky again. He's just the cutest little thing! It was really great to finally meet Lynne and Logan!

Hi Tatha!!

WOW!! Logan and I feel so honored to be one of your headings. It was so wonderful to see you and Duncan on Saturday. As I told you Saturday, I was hoping you might decide to "pop in" for a visit. Logan really enjoyed all your loving attention.

I think it is so great that you mentioned Merlin and Micah by name. Hopefully, one of the special people that read your Blog will either want to adopt one of them or know someone who would. Merlin already loves people and would make a wonderful friend and companion for anyone. I think Logan and Duncan are proof that Micah would come around and start trusting and enjoying life with the right "forever" person or family. It would be so wonderful if your Blog accomplished that. Keep up the good work!! Logan and I hope to see you again soon.
