Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Something New

Duncan did the most adorable thing last night. We decided to go to the park, and we picked Hannah up on the way to take her with us. Hannah gets very excited when she realizes we are driving some place she likes to go, and she particularly loves going to the park. So she was sitting in the back seat whining her excitement to me as we got nearer. I was exclaiming to Duncan, "Wanna go to the park? ... Look we're going to the park!" Duncan normally sits or lays down in the passenger seat. He does not get excited about going places. He's usually just content to be going. But this time he was standing up in the seat next to me, and as I turned into the park he reached out and pawed my arm. At first I thought maybe he'd just lost his balance and was reaching out to regain it. Duncan has never initiated an interaction and does not seek out attention. But then he did it again; he reached out and pawed my arm as if to say, "Mom! We're going to the park!" I think he was responding to Hannah's excitement and learning that it's ok to get excited about things! It was so cute!
