Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Marigold Update

I recieved some sad news today about my last Featured Adoptable, Marigold. Glenn sent me an email with the following:
She hadn't been eating very well so we did an Xray Friday and it showed a mass in her abdomen. I took her in for an ultra sound today and her spleen has excess blood in it but the real problem is her liver has some metastized lesions and they are not operable. They said they would recommend she be put down but we brought her home and will let her enjoy life away from the puppy mill until we feel the time is right. We don't expect it to be very long though as her appetite isn't very good.

It's just not fair. The poor girl. Please be thinking of her and pray that she enjoys the time that she does have.

Awww, so sorry to hear about Marigold! The great thing about dogs though is that even though they may be sick, they truly live in the moment, no regrets about the past, and no worries about the future, however short that may be. Her owners will know when her time here is up, and she just no longer enjoys being here. I am praying that they are comforted in knowing that her last days were spent with the people she loves most.

Marigold passed away on Thursday morning August 2nd. She had not eaten or drank in several days and so was telling her foster parents that it was time. It is a blessing thought that she was able to have even a small amount of time away from the puppy mill, experiencing some semblance of a normal life.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to adopt two healthy shelties. So many more do not come to as good of an end. Although Mariold was only able to experience a short time outside of the puppy mill life, there are many more mill dogs who are just euthanized or worse when they are no longer usefull to thier owners.

Thanks to Mariold's foster parents (who were also Duncan's foster parents) for giving Marigold the best to be given, and for keeping her from suffering when it was time to let her go.
