Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Beau and Coda

Here are our first contestants! Make sure to email your friends to come vote or to submit thier dogs!

Nicole & Brian Engard, Pennsylvania
Dogs: Beau (sable) male, 2ish (rescued) and Coda (bi-black) female, 4.5 years.

Right after we were married, Brian and I got Coda as a tiny 2 pound bundle of puppy. When she got old enough (and we got a bigger yard) we decided that we still had plenty of love to share and decided that we wanted to rescue a baby who didn't have the luck to grow up like Coda had. We volunteered for several sheltie rescues in the area and kept and eye on their rescue lists. We weren't picky, as long as Coda got along with the dog we picked, we were happy. After months of looking, we found Beau. Beau came from a house where his owner traveled frequently and left him alone in a crate to fend for himself. Then when the owner was home Beau would run around and bark and ask for attention and so the owner opened up his front door and let Beau leave. Thank goodness a friendly neighbor swooped Beau up and gave him to the Northern Chesapeake Sheltie Rescue. In our first months together, we found that Beau was the most loving little Sheltie we had ever met. He slept in our bed the first night (without our invitation) and wanted us to squeeze him between us. We soon leared (from a professional) that Beau has OCD! A little bit of medication, a bit more training and a ton of love and Beau is doing wonderfully in his new home! The reason we included Coda in this picture as well is because we wanted everyone to see how happy Beau is to be in a loving home with a sister of his very own to torture and love - how could life be any better?
Beau loves nothing more than his sister Coda. He loves to romp with her in the back yard and play chase. When Coda hides, he will often walk away from her and feign disinterest - only to barrel into her as soon as she comes out of hiding. No matter how many times we see them play it makes us smile and laugh.

You can see more of Coda & Beau online at flicker(They're my favorite subjects for photos.)

Congratulations on such a happy pair of kids Nicole! Thanks for adopting!
