Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Anniversary

I have been without Charlotte for two months today. And Duncan came home one month ago today. I miss Char so much, but I am very happy to have Duncan with me!

In the book I referenced before, there is a chapter about massage for dogs. I tried a bit on Duncan for a short time last night, and he seemed to enjoy it. He seems to like having his face and muzzle rubbed, and he's ok with having his ears rubbed. As I moved on to the rest of his body he sort of stretched out a bit on the couch, particularly when I got to one of his back legs. He'd had it tucked under him, and when I began to massage his hip, he stretched his whole leg out for me to rub. He did not startle or shy away from me at any time. I was very surprised at how much he seemed to enjoy it.

Barbra from LLdog rescue told me about your "blog" site. We have two mill babies that we got from them and we have experienced so much the same thing. But you are progressing so much faster than we have. We got our first about 16 months ago and we kind of let her take as much time as she wanted to get used to us and the other shelties we have. She eventually bonded with another rescue that we had gotten a month before and they are best buddies now. She came along way in a year, we thought, but you have really done alot in a very short time. We got our second about 4 months ago and her personality is very different from the first. She, at this point, is much shyer than the first but we love them all so much that we give them all the time it takes and we know she will come around like the first one did. I'm not sure if they are ever totally trusting but time will tell. Thanks for letting me enjoy what you have written. Jan V.B.
