Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Snuggle Bunny

Although Duncan is not yet (and may never be) completely comfortable with being handled, he is certainly coming along nicely. Last week we stopped by my sisters place to visit her. Duncan has not been able to spend very much time with my sister, but seems to know that he can trust her like me. My Mom and I talked later about how he probably sensed the genetic connection. Duncan sniffed around her apartment, and when Brie called to him, he jumped right up onto the couch next to her and sat down. Aren't they cute!

Also during the same visit, he allowed me to pull him onto my lap to snuggle a bit. Normally I cannot reach over and move him to where I would like him to go. It startles him and he usually jumps away, so I don't try it very often. But, as you can see he let me do it that day.

This morning he showed me the most affection he has ever shown. After I let him back in from the back yard this morning (I don't even have to leave the deck to get him to go back inside most of the time anymore,) he jumped back up in bed and laid down where I had thrown the covers back. Normally he lays on top of all the covers. But he was laying with his head towards the foot of the bed. So I crawled back in with him and pulled the covers up. I nudged him a little to try to get him turn around, not really expecting him to move at all. But instead, he did a funny little waddle and turned around to face the top of the bed and laid down right up against me, letting me wrap my arms around him and snuggle with him. He was so cute! He only stayed there for a few minutes, as I'm sure it was warm under the covers with all his fur and my body heat. But it was nice to be able to lay there and snuggle with him for a little while!
