Welcome to Winning Duncan Over! You will find in these pages the story of a Shetland Sheep dog who spent 8 years as a puppy mill stud dog before being rescued. Duncan's rescue is only the beginning of the story however. A great deal of time, work, love and patience is needed to turn an abused puppy mill dog into a happy and healthy pet, and that is the story told here. If you would like to read Duncan's full story I recommend that you start in the Archives at the left with February 2007 - when it all began for me, Duncan's guardian. Thank you for visiting Duncan's site, and please tell a friend!

Duncan Duck

Hey! I think someone substituted my dog for a duck! This is Duncan at Petsmart a few weeks ago being a very good sport and trying on a "ducky robe" for me. No, we did not end up buying the robe; it was actually too small for him. So anyway, many would say that Shelties - for the most part, do not like water. Duncan definitely does not like thunderstorms, but he does seem to like a good soft rain. He does not have a problem with going outside when it is gently drizzling, and I have a little trouble getting him to come in afterwards. He wants to keep playing in the rain. The other day when I got home I let him out after it had been raining all day. He ran up to the top of the hill and went potty of course. The next time I looked up he was on his back, all four feet in the air, rolling in the wet grass!

He does seem to be getting better about letting me towel him off. He's never fought me on it, but he did not seem to really care for it initially. He does seem to be warming up to it now. He lets me wrap him in the towel and seems to enjoy my rubbing him down, especially his little face.

Like I said, how'd I get a duck instead of a dog?
