I'm in trouble...
I fell in love... that should say it all... Duncan and I went to Petco to see everyone from LL Dog Rescue again on Saturday. It was funny, he seemed to know where we were going this time, and as we turned onto Metcalf he stood up in his seat, watching for Petco. Not only did he paw my arm again in excitement, but he put his paw on my forearm and let it rest there for a few moments! He really likes to go and see all the Shelties! Well, moments after we got there, I noticed a new rescue that I hadn't met yet in one of the kennels. So I went over to see her. This put me in immediate peril and there was no hope for me now...
Meet Tuffy. She is also a Mill Breeder Rescue. She is three years old and by some wonderful miracle has not developed the "puppy mill shell" around her little Sheltie heart. When I went up to her kennel she immediately sat up, and when I reached in to pet her, she pawed at me. Tuffy actually wants attention-very rare for a mill dog. She is incredibly sweet and amazingly confident. I leashed her, and got her out of the kennel to say hi to me and Duncan...and she crawled into my lap. "Ugh-oh!" I told Barbara that I wanted her.
She and Duncan seemed to get along well. They even laid down next to each other at one point and immediately looked like brother and sister. (Oh boy.) I tried to get a picture of this, but they moved before I was able to. Duncan handled my petting and kissing on her very well, but did finally get a little jealous and stepped up into my lap again. You can see very well in this picture that Tuffy is actually what looks like a Sable Merle. I have never seen one of these! You can see the Merling as it curls down from her ear towards her neck. She's beautiful, sweet, and seems to like Duncan. And, as I've mentioned before I think it would do Duncan good to have another Sheltie around, especially one who is more confident and may want to play some. I was just hoping that Duncan and I could wait a few years, 'til I maybe had some more room! But on the other hand, Duncan is 9 years old...
I also think that Gracie would like Tuffy as well. They're actually very similar character wise with their friendliness, and I suspect they might like eacth other immediately. I don't know when I'll get her. She's being spayed tomorrow (Barbara had actually only had her for three days!) And I'll have to put her adoption fee together. Tuffy was only given her name recently and doesn't seem to know it yet so we may change it. What does everyone think of Debbie? Duncan Hines and Little Debbie... Is that corny enough? Ha! Duncan and Debbie. Hmm... Boy and I in trouble!

Congratulations, Tatha!! I know exactly what you felt when you saw Tuffy. That's how I ended up with Rex. Like Tuffy, Rex is such a happy, loving puppy. Unlike Tuffy, he had a problem with Petco and meeting new people. As you can well imagine, there is nothing like watching two Shelties running around playing with each other!!
I had planned to come to Petco Saturday, but knew it would take a good sized chunk out of my day which was already full of "need-to-do" tasks for the day. Now I really wish I had made Petco one of my top priorities. I'll have to call Barbra today and get the "total scoop" on Tuffy. She is really adorable. Shelties truly are addictive, aren't they?
Hope to see you and Tuffy soon~~by the way, I LOVE "Duncan Hines" and "Little Debbie." Two of my family's favorite things!!
Take care,
Lynne
Monday was Tuffy’s big vet day. Now she has all her shots, her heartworm test was negative, she had a dental and pedicure. She was spayed and got her very own micro chip.
Tuffy was a pretty groggy little girl for the rest of the day and night. She thought she might just skip dinner and sleep instead. She felt much better by Tuesday morning, but still not a lot of spunk. Tuffy got up this morning hopping, jumping and dancing around, ready for play and excited to see everyone. "Good Morning, Happy Day, where's breakfast?!!" :)
She is a very sweet, loving little Sheltie girl, especially considering where she started her life.

okay - I started reading Duncan's story at the beginning and am this far - I really hope you get (got) the little girl Sheltie. We just got a 2 1/2 yr old a few weeks ago and love her to pieces but she has a few quirks we're working on. I blog about her all the time now and have her story as to how we got her. We're still thinking of fostering, though. Anyway, thanks for sharing Duncan's story and I'll continue to read forward. :)Nancy
